The City of Fountains Foundation will host a Sunday event at Union Station to raise money to repair landmark city fountains.
The first Festival of Fountains will also mark the 40th anniversary of the non-profit foundation.
It will take place at the Block fountain in front of the station from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Before it, hundreds of bicycle riders will be in the Ride the Fountain bike ride that begins at the station at 8 a.m. and ends about 11 a.m.
The day’s activities will include trolleys that leave the station every 10 minutes to take people on guided tours of city fountains.
There will be vendors with food and drink and a Lego exhibit, the Zoomobile, animals from Lakeside Nature Center and a power-point show of fountains.
For children, there will be an entertainment stage featuring youth dance groups and a disc jockey and a Fountains Activity Book.
At 1 p.m., the Marching Cobras perform in a ceremony that includes a brief history of the foundation and an announcement of the private fund raising campaign.
The foundation hopes to raise $2.7 million in a year to 18 months to repair eight fountains in severe need.
Among them is the Seville Light fountain at the east entrance to the Country Club Plaza, which alone needs $500,000 in repairs and has been turned off since 2006.
