DNA sends man to jail for 1997 incident at 55th and Troost

A man who was connected to a 1997 robbery and sexual assault at 55th and Troost is going to jail.

A Jackson County judge sentenced Jeffrey C. Ford to 25 years in prison in connection with 1997 robbery and sexual assault of a woman whose car broke down in Kansas City, thanks to DNA testing that linked him to the old crimes, the prosecutor’s office says.

Ford, 43, was sentenced on a count of Robbery 1st Degree for the Oct. 1997 attack of a 54-year-old woman who accepted a ride after her car broke down near 55 and Troost Ave. He raped her, she told police, and took her purse. Evidence from the assault matched Ford’s DNA.

Prosecutors charged Ford with robbery in 2012, after the DNA match was discovered. They say Missouri law prevented them from filing a rape charge.
