Details you need for getting around during St. Patrick’s parade

The 44th annual St. Patrick’s Day parade begins Thursday at 11 a.m. at the corner of Linwood and Broadway. The parade route runs down Broadway to 43rd Street.

The parade route will close Broadway from Linwood Blvd to 43rd St. during the hours of 8:30 a.m. until approximately 1:30 p.m.

The following staging areas will also close from 8:30 a.m. March 17 until 1:30 or 2 p.m.:

  • Broadway between 31st and Linwood Blvd.
  • Linwood Blvd. between Pennsylvania St. and Main St.
  • C. Nichols Parkway between 43rdSt. and 47th St.

No parking signs were posted along the parade route and staging areas on Tuesday.  The Kansas City Police Department began enforcing the parking restriction early Wednesday morning. Any vehicles on the parade route or staging areas after 4 a.m. Thursday, March 17 will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Here are parade-day details from the police department:

Police ask all parade attendees and St. Patrick’s Day revelers to protect their property by not leaving any items of value in plain view in their vehicles. Numerous officers will be patrolling the parade route and nearby areas.

Police remind parade-goers that open-container ordinances remain in effect during the parade, and citations will be issued for open consumption of alcohol. Police also will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on St. Patrick’s Day.

Additional KCATA buses will be available at 39th and Broadway/Main to help ease pedestrian traffic at the end of the parade.

After the parade, police will dedicate numerous officers to provide extra security in the Westport entertainment district.
