Civil War collection and re-enactors coming to Westport

“Captain Kelly” and other civil war re-enactors are coming to the Harris-Kearney House Museum in Westport.

Richard Heaviland, owner of Westport Frameworks, will exhibit his large collection that includes Civil War photographs, old maps, confederate war bonds and other historical items there from Oct. 4 to Oct. 31.

Heaviland, founder of Kelly’s Irish Brigade, is known as Captain Kelly among re-enactors, the Westport Historical Society reports.

A grand showing will be held Oct. 4 from 5-8 p.m., with light refreshments. Heaviland will be there as Captain Kelly, along with other Civil War re-enactors.

According to the historical society press release:

Westport Frameworks is one of the oldest businesses in Westport and the Harris-Kearney House is the oldest remaining residence in Kansas City.

The Harris family built the house at 4000 Baltimore in 1855 and it is now a museum owned and operated by the historical society.

The house is open for tours Wednesday through Saturday, from 1 to 5 p.m.
