With concern about the Ebola outbreak in other parts of the world and the country, the Kansas City Health Department says it has ruled out any presence in Kansas City.
“If or when a case of Ebola actually is found in Kansas City, we are prepared,” said Dr. Rex Archer, director of the Health Department. “Health Departments, hospitals, emergency responders and other community partners are constantly reviewing and improving our plans and practices to make sure that we protect the health of the public.”
The department says it is monitoring the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Africa and the case in Texas. At this time, based on clinical guidelines and the case definition provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Health Department has ruled out the presence of Ebola in Kansas City, it says.
The department is reminding Kansas City residents that they cannot catch Ebola unless they come in direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of someone who is sick with Ebola. To date, everyone who has had the disease has traveled to or was in an area affected by an Ebola outbreak. Ebola is not transmitted through the air.
