City names new city prosecutor

city-hallCity Atttorney William Geary has announced that Keith Ludwig will serve as city prosecutor, replacing Lowell Gard, who is retiring from that position.

Ludwig previously served as the first assistant city prosecutor. He also has been a full-time courtroom prosecutor since 2011. Prior to that time, he also worked as a part-time courtroom prosecutor for the City for 14 years while engaged in a private practice. Ludwig’s experience also includes serving as an assistant Platte County prosecutor and a state public defender. He brings business management experience from years of work before he decided to attend law school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

“Although new leadership always brings some new approaches to a job, I’m confident that Keith will continue to lead the City Prosecutor’s Office with a high level of professionalism and the necessary concern for victims, the needs of the court, close cooperation with the KCPD and City code enforcement workers, the best interests of the prosecutor’s staff, and the needed fairness to defendants in the Municipal Court system,” said Geary.

During retirement, Gard plans to spend more time with family, competitive target shooting, writing his black powder magazine column and working in his blacksmith shop.
