City makes 311 online reporting easier

When you need to report a problem to the city, things should be a little easier. That city says its made enhancements to its online 311 call center. You can now look up a request on an online map, view its status and history, and submit follow-up comments.

Here’s more from a city press release:

“These improvements will provide both City staff and 311 users with better information, which may help resolve some issues more quickly,” said Mille Crossland, technology project liaison. “This is an upgrade that residents requested, and we’re pleased to provide it.”

Users may access the 311 online map by visiting www.kcmo.gov/311 and selecting “Report a problem online” or “Locate open service requests on the map” or by visiting http://maps.kcmo.org/apps/311ServiceRequest directly. When a user selects an open service request on the map, they will notice two new links: “Status” and “Submit Comment by Email.”

The “Status” link opens in a browser window to show users the request’s case notes and current status. The link has a unique Web address, which allows it to be bookmarked or emailed.

The “Submit Comment by Email” link permits residents to comment on an open case. The link opens up a new email message referencing the case number. Comments submitted will be added to the case, and the resident submitting the comment will be notified of case resolution.

“This provides another metric to use in prioritizing cases,” Crossland added.

The 311 Call Center began accepting online service requests on May 1, 2010. While the call center accepts phone calls on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., residents may conveniently make service requests online any time, any day and without any wait.

Residents may request a variety of service requests online, including abandoned cars, illegal dumping, missed trash pickup, potholes, broken street lights  and more.
