Charges filed in 54th and Holmes carjacking attempt

Police are offering new details about man who allegedly stole a car and smashed it into a utility pole Tuesday night on the 5400 block of Holmes.

James L. Bovee, 27, faces felony charges. According to the police report, a victim told police that Bovee came up to his vehicle, banged on the window, opened an unlocked door and wrestled the keys from the driver. After taking the vehicle the defendant drove approximately a block and hit a utility pole. Residents in the area saw the incident, one even trying to help the car owner remove the defendant from the vehicle.

Police read Bovee his Miranda rights, according to court records, and he told them he had been drinking gin for hours, admitted to getting into two different vehicles, but remembered nothing else.
