Bus schedule for Plaza Lights and Mayor’s Christmas Tree

Did you know you can take a bus to the Plaza for the lighting ceremony on Thanksgiving? Sure beats circling those parking garages…

The ATA has sent us some updates on  Plaza bus schedules as well as rerouting around the lighting ceremony and the mayor’s Christmas tree festivities Friday at Crown Center.

Service to Plaza Lighting Ceremony: On Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, from 4 to 11 p.m., Main St. MAX Orange Line will offer more frequent service for The Plaza Lighting Ceremony. Orange Line buses will operate about every 15 minutes, instead of every 30 minutes.

Buses on 15-minute frequency:

Begin from 74th Terrace & Broadway at 4:11 p.m.

Begin from 3rd & Grand Park-and-Ride at 3:54 p.m.

Last 15-minute northbound bus leaves the Plaza (47th & Main when Plaza MAX stop is closed due to traffic) at 10:55 p.m.

Last 15-minute southbound bus leaves the Plaza (47th & Main when Plaza MAX stop is closed due to traffic) at 11:19 p.m.

Throughout the rest of the day, MAX will operate its holiday schedule, which is every 30 minutes. The last regularly scheduled northbound bus leaves The Plaza at 12:10 a.m. and the last regularly scheduled southbound bus leaves The Plaza at 11:34 p.m.

MAX, 35-35th Street, 47-Broadway and 57-Wornall Reroute On Nov. 28

Plaza service on Main St. MAX, 35-35th Street, 47-Broadway and 57-Wornall will reroute around The Plaza because of traffic congestion expected on Thanksgiving Day during The Plaza Lighting Ceremony. All of the reroutes will begin at 6 p.m. and end when traffic clears, at approximately 11 p.m.

Main St. MAX Orange Line: Southbound MAX will travel the regular route to 47th & Main, continue south past 47th St. to Main/Brookside. Buses will then travel west on 49th St. to Main, and south to resume the regular route. Northbound buses will travel the regular route to 49th & Main, go east on 49th, north on Brookside, continue north to 47th St. to resume the regular route.

After 6 p.m., MAX will not make passenger stops at the northbound and southbound stations on J.C. Nichols Parkway. Customers will need to board and exit northbound and southbound MAX buses at 47th & Main, on the north side of the intersection. However, buses will still make passenger stops south of 49th St.

35-35th Street: Eastbound buses will travel the regular route to Belleview & Roanoke Parkway, continue south on Belleview, east on S. Ward Parkway, east on Volker, north on Oak, west on 47th, and south on Main to lay over. Westbound buses will continue south on Main, west on N. Ward Parkway, south on Baltimore/J.C. Nichols, west on S. Ward Parkway, north on Roanoke Parkway, and continue north on Madison to resume the regular route.

47-Broadway: Eastbound buses will travel the regular route to 43rd & J.C. Nichols, go east on 43rd, south on Main, and east on 47th St. to resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel the regular route 47th & Main, go north on Main, west on 43rd, and north on J.C. Nichols to resume the regular route.

57-Wornall: Northbound buses will travel the regular route to Wornall & S. Ward Parkway, go east on S. Ward Parkway, continue east on Volker, north on Oak, west on 47th, and south on Main to lay over. Southbound buses will continue south on Main, go west on N. Ward Parkway, south on Baltimore/J.C. Nichols, west on S. Ward Parkway, and south on Wornall to resume the regular route.

 

Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, Nov. 29

On Friday, Nov. 29, routes that usually travel on Grand serving Crown Center will be rerouted from 3 p.m. to midnight because of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The lighting ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. Customers can call 816-221-0660 to find a nearby Metro bus stop.

Routes that will be affected by reroutes include Main St. MAX Orange Line, 34X-Shoal Creek-Liberty Express, 36X-Gladstone Express, 37X-N. Broadway Express, 54-Armour-Paseo, 129-Broadway-KCI, 132-Gracemor, 135-Winnwood/69 Hwy, and 142-North Oak.
