The Broadway Community Improvements District starts soon, joining all those around it, allowing a one-cent sales tax within the district to fund security and marketing among other improvements.
The city council Thursday approved the district bounded by both sides of Broadway from West 36th Street to Westport Road, with branches extending west on 39th between Southwest Trafficway and Wyandotte Street, and on Westport Road to Baltimore.
Advocates say it would mesh with other CID districts along Main, 39th and in Westport to make for continuous coverage for Midtown.
Broadway business owners say they will contract with Diane Burnette, director of the Main Street CID, to operate the one on Broadway, better linking all of Midtown.
