Acadèmie Lafayette invites community to open house

The former Longan School in Hyde Park has been converted to a French language immersion charter school. The school is holding an open house tomorrow to let the community see what’s going on at its Cherry Street location.

Acadèmie Lafayette, the new K-2 French immersion public charter school at 3421 Cherry Street, is inviting the community to an open house tomorrow, Sept. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Acadèmie Lafayette’s original location is at 6903 Oak. When the Kansas City School District put up the Longan School in Hyde Park for sale, the Acadèmie Lafayette board purchased the school and opened its second site.  The school opened in August and has attracted students from across the Kansas City School District. All students in the district are eligible to attend the school.

During the open house, community members can tour the 21 classrooms, auditorium and gymnasium which parents and other volunteers spent the summer refinishing.

By the way, the school says housewarming gifts are welcome. It’s especially looking for children’s library books in French or English, balls, jump ropes, and new socks and underwear for students age 6-9.
