Kansas City Boys, Girls Choirs to honor executive director

Ah-Lee-RobinsonThe Kansas City Boys Choir and the Kansas City Girls Choirs, which recently moved to 1 West Armour, will honor their choir executive director Oct. 26.

The choirs will host a dinner and roast in honor of Choir Executive Director Ah’Lee Robinson’s 20 years of leadership.  U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver will speak at the event. Cleaver’s vision as pastor of the St. James United Methodist Church inspired Robinson to found the choirs.

He has also worked with Brandy, Chris Brown, Jesse McCartney, Rihanna, Backstreet Boys and Jamie Foxx.

“Mr. Robinson has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of kids in our community,” Choir board president Michael Hobson said in a press release.  “He has dedicated his life to ensuring the success in each of them by creating leaders, developed their self esteem, building their character, instilled the respect of others and many more qualities.”

The choirs were also named one of 50 finalists for the 2014 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award. The organization was a finalist for the award in 2013.
