White House hears from UMKC librarian about lifelong learning

A UMKC librarian was at the White House yesterday, sharing her ideas forhow to create lifelong learners.

Gloria Tibbs, a librarian for the University of Missouri-Kansas City, has been named a White House “Champion of Change.” She is one of 12 museum and library professionals from across the country who participated in panel discussions at the White House yesterday, according to a press release.

Tibbs is a Teaching and Learning Services Librarian at UMKC’s Miller Nichols Library, where she has worked since 2001. She also serves as the Library’s Diversity Liaison, a role that enables her to diligently promote the principles of diversity, inclusiveness, and respect throughout the Libraries, the campus, the greater Kansas City community, and the profession.

Tibbs is the second person with UMKC ties to be recognized as a Champion of Change. UMKC alumnus Riddhiman Das, a 2012 graduate of UMKC who studied computer science and entrepreneurship, was one of 12 immigrant entrepreneurs honored on May 29.
