Westport High School redevelopers to present revised proposal

westport highMidtown residents, who have shown a great deal of interest in the reuse plans for Westport High School, can get an update on Monday, March 21. The redevelopment group Kansas City Sustainable Development Partners wants to use the track/field area to provide parking for its tenants.

The school district repurposing team is inviting local stakeholders to hear the proposal and provide feedback.  Feedback will be used by KCPS school board to determine if the revised proposal should be accepted.

Melanie said it best, “They paved paradise to put up a parking lot. Oh de do, it seems to go, that you don’t know what you got till its gone, they paved paradise to put up a parking lot.” I didn’t know what she was talking about then, in the 60s. But I sure do now, and it seems that Westport residents will be the victims of the money grabbers who want to pave a track and field, where kids play soccer, women meet while they walk the their dogs, and people get together just to have fun. I’ve lived there for 7 years, and for 3 of those years, I walked my dog there everyday. It’s safe, the dogs can run free with other dogs for awhile and people can get some fresh air away from the noise of Main Street. In all those years, nothing has ever happened down there. No violence, no vagrants, nothing. And these people want to pave over God’s green grass so people can park cars. It’s very sad, and I hope everyone from the Southmoreland neighborhood goes to Redeemer Church to protest this new project of paving over the field and track. We’ll be there to support those who are against this on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 6:00 pm. 3921 Baltimore Avenue. See you there.

A Parking Lot … Are you kidding me, .. A Parking Lot?
My wife and I Love http://midtownkcpost.com/ and the South Mooreland area.

What we don’t love is the fact that money is the driving factor here: {yes – money} … So these “developers” want to turn the field and track into a parking lot. Really? The only thing these people want to ‘develop is more money for themselves. http://www.kcsdp.com/

There are people who do use the High School track to not only walk their dogs, but many people use this land to run, walk, jog, ride bikes, play games and so on. It has become a great SAFE area to fellowship with our neighbors.

    What a waste … God Bless ~Will L.
