Westport Center for the Arts features acoustic trio

brokenstring_ensembleThe acoustic trio Broken String, mixing up a blend of North American Jazz, Spanish Flamenco, Brazilian music and the Pat Metheny songbook, is on the schedule for the Westport Center for the Arts’ Brown Bag Concert series.

Broken String will perform at 12:10 p.m. Friday, April 25, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 Westport Road

The acoustic trio includes guitarists Michael McClintock and Jarrod Stephenson, and percussionist John Currey.

McClintock has performed with Manos Rojas School of Flamenco and as a guest performer for De los Barrios, a flamenco dance and music group. In addition to being a founding member of Broken String, he also founded Mistura Fina, a Brazilian Jazz and folk music group.

Stephenson is a founding member of the flamenco groups Alma Flamenca and De los Barrios. He performs as a solo guitar player and with ”Olé, the Music and Dance of Spain.”

Currey is the director of Marimba Sol de Chiapas Mexican Marimba Ensemble. He has performed with Kansas City Symphony, newEar contemporary chamber ensemble, Kansas City Ballet Orchestra, the American Ballet Theatre, the Czech National Orchestra and the Caribbean Steel Pan Band.

Concert admission is free, but donations are welcome. A complimentary reception will be held immediately after the concert.

Financial assistance for this project has been provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency, and the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City.
