Volker neighborhood starting family-friendly festival

midtown-neighborhood-mapMore and more Midtown neighborhoods are starting signature events to showcase their area and bring together residents.

Add the Volker neighborhood to the list. Volker is starting Volkerfest in conjunction with the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Board of Commissioners. Its billed as a family-friendly festival and will take place on June 27 from 3 – 9 p.m. in Roanoke Park.

Volkerfest will showcase bands, artists, vendors, and food from Volker, Midtown, Hyde Park, the Crossroads, and the Downtown area.

“Our goal is highlight everything our slice of Midtown has to offer.  We encourage everyone to walk, bike, or at minimum carpool,” Melissa Martin, one of the event coordinators, says. “We hope this is an event you will bring a blanket to, take a stroll on a trail, enjoy your neighbors/new friends, and mark down for the years to come as a must-attend community building event.”

Organizers say Volkerfest will offer clothing, henna, massages, watercolor, and even a special appearance by Cinderella.  There will also be for arts and crafts made from the nature of Roanoke Park, free tours, and more.

The festival will offer music from local bands and food from local eateries.

Volker Bicycles will running a bicycle valet for those festival attendees; the shop will do a free safety check while bike riders attend the festival.
