Uptown benefit tonight for JJs to help employees, honor Cramer

Tonight is the big benefit for JJs employees at the Uptown Theater.

Several local bands will perform. Local restaurants will prove food and drink and there will be a silent action.

Former Chiefs player Eddie Kennison and KCTV5’s Kelly Jones will host the benefit.

Bands performing include The Latenight Callers, David George and A Crooked Mile, Allied Saints,  Loaded Goat, The Grisley Hand, Patrick Krief, Megan Birdsall, Victor and Penny, Shallac Attack, and DJ Rico

“We’ve seen a tremendous outpouring of support from a community of industry colleagues, patrons and friends asking what they can do to help,” Jim Ligon, a JJ’s bartender, said in a release. “This benefit is to give back, to create a fund in honor of Megan and help those who make JJ’s such a special place to so many in Kansas City get better and back on their feet.”

The popular JJs Restaurant was destroyed by a gas explosion on February 19. One employee, Megan Cramer, was killed, and several others were injured.

The proceeds from the benefit will help with the recovery of those injured as well as set up a fund to honor Cramer.
