Traffic and transit alerts for Presidential visit to Midtown

The ATA says we need to be prepared for road closures and rerouting because of the President’s visit to Midtown tomorrow.

President Obama is scheduled to speak at 11 a.m. and crowds lined up yesterday at the Uptown Theater to get tickets for his speech on the economy there.

The President will arrive in Kansas City today, and that will cause closures as his motorcade moves through the city. Unexpected delays are possible, but here are the ones the ATA has alerted us to so far:

  • Effective 3 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, to Wednesday, July 30, Metro buses will reroute because of road closures for President Barack Obama’s visit. Wyandotte between 11th and 17th streets will be closed.
  • Main Street MAX: Northbound buses will travel the regular route to 18th & Main, go west on 18th, north on Baltimore, and east on 12th to resume the regular route. Southbound buses will travel the regular route to 11th & Walnut, go north on Walnut, west on 9th, south on Wyandotte, west on 11th, south on Broadway, east on 12th, south on Baltimore, east on 18th, and south on Main to resume the regular route.
  • Troost MAX: Northbound buses will travel the regular route to 11th & Walnut, go north on Walnut, west on 9th, south on Wyandotte, and west on 11th to lay over between Central and Broadway. From the layover, southbound buses will go west on 11th, south on Broadway, and east on 12th to resume the route. Expect delays at 12th & Wyandotte.
  • 12-12th Street: Eastbound buses will travel the regular route. Expect delays at 12th & Wyandotte. Westbound buses will travel the regular route to 11th & Walnut, go north on Walnut, west on 9th, south on Wyandotte, and west on 11th to resume the regular route.
  • 25-Troost, 108-Indiana: Northbound buses will travel the regular route to 12th & Broadway, and go east on 12th to layover on 12th between Broadway & Central. Southbound buses will travel the regular route. Expect delays at 12th & Wyandotte.
  • 47-Broadway: North/westbound buses will travel the regular route to 18th & Main, go west on 18th, north on Baltimore, west on 9th, north on Wyandotte, east on 6th, and south on Main to lay over. From the layover, buses will continue south on Main to the 10th & Main MetroCenter. South/eastbound buses will continue south on Main to circle the MetroCenter, west on 10th, south on Wyandotte, west on 11th, south on Broadway, east on 12th, south on Baltimore, east on 18th, and south on Main to resume the regular route.
  • 51-Ward Parkway: Northbound buses will travel the regular route to 18th & Main, go west on 18th, north on Baltimore, west on 11th, north on Wyandotte, east on 8th, and south on Main to the 10th & Main lay over location. From the layover at 10th & Main, southbound buses will travel west on 10th, south on Wyandotte, west on 11th, south on Broadway, east on 12th, south on Baltimore, east on 18th, and south on Main to resume the regular route.
  • 173-Casino Cruiser: Northbound buses will travel the regular route to 16th & Baltimore, continue north on Baltimore, and east on 10th to resume the regular route. Southbound buses will travel the regular route to the 10th & Main MetroCenter, continue south on Main to circle the MetroCenter, go west on 10th, south on Wyandotte, west on 11th, south on Broadway, east on 12th, south on Baltimore, east on 18th, and south on Main to resume the regular route.
