Statewide tornado drill at 1:30 this afternoon

It may seem strange to hear tornado sirens today while we still have piles of snow on every street, but don’t be surprised.

The city is participating in the annual statewide tornado drill today. At 1:30 p.m., the sirens will sound as a test to make sure equipment is in working order.

The monthly tornado test usually comes on the first Wednesday of the month, but tomorrow’s test will be canceled because of today’s drill.

The annual drill is part of Missouri Severe Weather Awareness Week March 4-8. The city’s Emergency Management Department, the National Weather Service, and the State Emergency Management Agency urge the public to think about how to prepare for severe weather in advance of tornado season.
