You may have heard of the annual TED conference that for the last 25 years has brought leading thinkers together to deliver 18 minute talks. The list of TED presenters over the years is the who’s who of innovators, celebrities and cutting edge thinkers in a variety of fields.

And now, an independently organized TED conference for youth is coming to the state line. Called TEDxYouth @StateLineRoad, the program is launching with a series of salon events. TEDx is an independent effort that receives general guidance from the TED Conference, but is self-organized. Beth Sarver is the licensee for the state line project.

The first of the salons begins Thursday at the Google Fiber Space, 1814 Westport Road from 6 to 7 p.m. The salons will be held on the first and third Thursday of each month ending on the first Thursday in August. The first two events will be held at Google and the group is coordinating with youth organizations around the metro to hold a salon at their site or a local library or community center. The salons are designed to build community among youth organizations in the bi-state metro and serve as a prelude to the big TEDxYouth@StateLineRoad event coming in early September.

Each salon gives an opportunity to watch a TED talk relevant to youth and talk about the ideas. They also give potential September presenters a chance to learn more about the process to become a speaker.

More about the local project can be found on the group’s Facebook page or by contacting Beth Sarver at b@bethsarver.com.
