With predictions of snowfall overnight, people stocked up on food and other essential at Midtown stores.
The city says it has already begun treating city streets with a brine solution in an effort to prevent snow from bonding with the roadways overnight.
A winter storm that dumped more than a foot of snow on the Rocky Mountains moved into Denver earlier today. It is expected to reach Kansas City overnight and dump one to three inches of snow.
But the city says it is prepared, with crews ready to hit the snowplows. The first shift assigned to primary and arterial routes will report to work at 11:30 p.m. The routes are handled by the city’s Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and Water Services Departments, which work together to remove snow and ice.
The city uses smaller trucks on residential routes. The first shift on residential routes will begin tomorrow at 6 a.m.
The city reminds residents that parking off the street will help crews get the plowing done faster. Cars parked on emergency snow routes may be ticketed or towed.
By the way, the here’s something to do if you get snowed in. The city has been expanding its GPS capacity to capture and report what snowplows are up to. So far, about a fourth of the city’s snowplows are trackable online, and the entire fleet will soon be trackable.
