Scam alert: caller claims to be with police department

The police department says a scammer has been making phone calls claiming to be a deputy from the Kansas City Police Department. When confronted about credentials, the caller gets argumentative, according to KCPD.

The intent of these types of phone calls is to obtain personal and financial information or money transfers. These calls typically originate from overseas and the caller ID is manipulated to show *911 on the victim’s phone.

The KCPD says it does not make this type of calls.
