Rockhurst gets new head of security

R_hopkinsRockhurst University has a new director of security. Randy Hopkins, a veteran of the Kansas City police department and a current deputy chief, will take over duties at Rockhurst on July 27.

In addition to overseeing security operations for the university, he will be responsible for crime prevention and crisis planning.

“Randy’s extensive law enforcement experience and familiarity with the Kansas City community will be huge assets to Rockhurst in this high-profile position,” said Gerald Moench, chief financial officer, who has oversight of the security operation said in a press release. “We look forward to benefiting from his expertise.”

Hopkins has been a member of the KCPD executive/command leadership team for 15 years, with experience in budget oversight, professional development and training, strategic planning and community involvement.

“I am honored and excited to work for a university that is known for its ability to produce exceptional leaders and critical thinkers in community service.” Hopkins said. “Rockhurst University has served the Kansas City, Missouri, area with distinction. It is a privilege to continue my calling in law enforcement with the University.”

Hopkins replaces Bill Evans who retired June 30 as director of security after 27 years of service.
