It’s a big weekend in Roanoke Park, as a new playground gets an official dedication.
Playground supporters from the surrounding neighborhoods of Volker, Roanoke, Coleman and Valentine are still hoping to get some help spreading mulch and putting on finishing touches Saturday morning.
At 4 p.m., the ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled, with Mark McHenry, chairman of the Parks and RecreationDepartment and other city officials on hand. Organizers suggest you pack a lunch and make an evening of it, and kids can try out the new equipment.
The new playground is by the tennis courts, across from the community center.
