Jackson County and the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority are buying the Rock Island rail corridor. The $52 million purchase of the 17.7-mile corridor could soon link Kansas City to the Katy Trail and opens vast transit and development possibilities.

Highwoods Properties, owner of the Country Club Plaza, announced the whole district is for sale.

Call them neighborhood bars, dive bars, whatever: two watering holes in the Uptown Arts District have served Midtown for decades. Now Chez Charlie and the Blarney Stone are attracting a whole new generation.

Kansas City is a good place to create art studios combined with artist living space, a consultant reported Thursday. There is no shortage of relatively cheap studio space in the city, she said, but studio and living spaces are not yet on the radar.

The Historic Preservation Commission considered adding a bland 1950 Country Club Plaza apartment building to the historic register.
