At city hall, the Midtown/Plaza area plan, which hundreds of residents have helped to create over the past two years, started its round of approvals.

The city council also heard a report saying fewer people are riding buses, and heard a proposal to make it easier for businesses to add bike racks.

The mayor announced new initiatives to help women in small business and STEM fields.
