As plans for two charters schools in Midtown move forward, a state commission heard public comments on the plan. The commission also heard testimony from Citizens of the World charter school administrators and board members. If the commission agrees to sponsor the school the first classes will begin in the fall of 2016.
With a new city council set to be seated August 2, the outgoing council pushed to finish up some important issues. They passed legislation moving forward plans for a downtown convention center hotel, and passed a set of standards for development along boulevards and parkways.
Outgoing Councilman Jim Glover asked the city to begin studying design standards for Linwood Boulevard.
The nine council members who are leaving because of term limits or because they lost reelection reflected on their years in service.
