Prosecutor who worked with neighborhoods named judge

Gov. Jay Nixon on Wednesday appointed Janette Rodecap as a Jackson County associate circuit judge.

The Kansas City woman fills the vacancy created by the recent death of Judge Margaret Sauer.

Rodecap, who has worked with Midtown neighborhoods against crime, is a trial team leader for the Jackson County prosecutor.

She prosecutes homicides, sex crimes, drug and property crimes and also has worked in the street crimes unit and special victim’s unit.

Before becoming a prosecutor, she clerked for U.S. District Judge Nanette Laughrey.

“Janette Rodecap’s depth of experience and strong leadership skills will serve her well in her new role as Associate Circuit Judge,” Nixon said.

He chose her from among three applicants submitted to him by a judicial selection commission.
