Popular budget report shows city finances in layman’s terms

The city has released a report on its finances that is meant to be easy to read and understand for citizens. The city’s Finance, Government and Ethics committee got a preview yesterday and the report is now available online.

The city began issuing the consumer-friendly report last year and received a Government Finance Officers Association award for its format. That group encourages governments to issue a “popular” report that simplifies information about the overall financial condition of the city. It is not audited and does not contain all of the information in the more technical Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

The city is asking for feedback about the report. Send comments to the City Controller’s Office via mail to 414 E. 12th St., Kansas City, Mo., 64106, via email to finance@kcmo.org or via telephone at 816-513-1187.
