Plaza lighting ceremony features Gillian Flynn, tribute to Royals

This year’s Plaza lighting ceremony will include a tribute to the Kansas City Royals. Kansas City native Gillian Flynn, author of the the book Gone Girl, will flip the switch that turns on the lights on Thanksgiving evening.

This is the 86th year for the popular lighting ceremony, which begins at 6 p.m. The switch will be flipped at 6:45. That lights will be on until Sunday, Jan. 17 and will come on nightly at 5 p.m.

Here’s the schedule for the evening:

  • Main Stage at Nichols Road & Pennsylvania by Brio Tuscan Grille.
  • 5 – 6 p.m. KCP&L Pre-show: Giveaways & performances by The Snow Globes, KC Rep, KCB-II, SunRaise Choir, Paul Mesner Puppets.
  • 6 – 7 p.m. KCP&L Lighting Ceremony: Royals Tribute, Gillian Flynn, KCP&L Plaza Lights Players, Snow Globes, Isaac Cates and Ordained.
  • 6:54 p.m. Flip of Switch with Gillian Flynn: Followed by three simultaneous fireworks displays
  • 7 – 8 p.m.: Post Show Concert with The Hembree
