The life and legacy of President John F. Kennedy are the topic of another Midtown event next week.
Kennedy’s assassination Nov. 22, 1963 is being remembered in ceremonies across the country.
Locally, Westport Presbyterian Church pastor Rev. Scott Myers has written a play to commemorate the event.
The play centers on a fictional evening at the White House just after the March on Washington in 1963. JFK and Jacqueline Kennedy have invited Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King to dinner. The ghost of Medgar Evers, slain civil rights leader, is invoked, and there are dramatic phone conversations between JFK and Lyndon B. Johnson, J. Edgar Hoover and Robert F. Kennedy.
“My play is meant to celebrate President Kennedy and pay homage to him as a person whose views and commitments changed as a result of his experiences in hot and cold wars and his encounters with the African-American freedom movement and its leaders,” Myers said.
Myers will also be giving a talk and presentation about JFK and his legacy at Shepherd Center Central’s “Adventures in Learning” speaker series at 12 p.m. Nov. 22 in Founders Hall at Central United Methodist Church, 5144 Oak, Kansas City, Missouri.

- JFK: A Ghostly Evening, a play written by Scott Myers, will open at the Just Off Broadway Theater, 3051 Central Ave.

- The play runs Nov. 22-24 and Nov. 29-Dec. 1. Tickets are $25 and $20 students and seniors.
- MeltingpotKC Theater Company is staging the play in association with the Westport Center for the Arts. Harvey Williams and Jacqee Gifford are directing.
