Midtown neighborhoods will be making their annual request for improvements next week at a Fourth District PIAC hearing.

It is scheduled for July 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Boulevard.

The Public Improvements Advisory Committee (PIAC) hears requests for citywide and neighborhood improvements that the community hopes the city will fund. Each summer, the committee holds a series of public hearings where residents can express their opinions, concerns and project requests for the forthcoming capital budget.

PIAC consists of 13 people, two from each council district and a chairperson, appointed by the mayor and City Council. The Fourth District PIAC representatives are Jim Corwin and Jim McDonald.

The city is encouraging neighborhoods to find ways to work together cooperatively instead of competing for PIAC funds.

Eligible PIAC projects include: storm water drainage/flooding-bridges/streets/roadways | public property improvements-street improvements | municipal buildings improvements  | community centers | street lighting/traffic lights | curbs and gutters | park facility improvements | monuments/fountains | ball fields/swimming pools.

The deadline to submit a PIAC application is August 31, 2015.  Any request submitted after the deadline date will be held for the next year’s funding.
