linwood-center-2Nonprofit Connecting for Good has opened a new public access computer lab and learning center to serve the urban core. The center is located in the recently-renovated Linwood Presbyterian complex near the intersection of Linwood Boulevard and Highway 71.

Connecting for Good says the center “provides Internet access, training and resources to close the digital divide in an inner city community where as few as one in five households has a computer and in-home connection.”

The facility has a computer lab that has free public access. Regular classes are conducted on computer basics and use of the Internet and email.  High school students can also used their school-issued laptops and tablets to do their homework and other constructive activities at the center.

In addition, Connecting for Goods says the center will help area residents improve their job skills. It will offer advanced workforce development classes including online job searching, resume development, and basic Microsoft Word and Excel.
