New city tax portal launched today

The city launched a new tax portal today that, it claims, allows folks to file City tax returns and make e-payments more quickly and efficiently.

Here’s more from the announcement:

Today, Monday, June 10, the City is launching Quick Tax, a new online revenue portal that will streamline the online tax process and offer taxpayers more options than previously available. Residents may access Quick Tax at https://quicktax.kcmo.org.

“Revenue staff members have been trained and are prepared to use this new technology,” said Mari Ruck, commissioner of revenue. “Our goal is to make filing taxes easier for residents and businesses and more efficient for City staff, while minimizing operational costs.”

The Quick Tax Web portal will support the essential functions of tax administration and compliance for the earnings tax, business license tax, utility taxes, convention and tourism taxes, and the arena fee.  Other taxes, including special assessments, will be incorporated in 2014.

Quick Tax will also offer many other new options. For example, taxpayers not having taxes withheld may make estimated tax payments throughout the year.  It will also allow residents to control account access for their tax preparers.

Taxpayers who wish to use Quick Tax must first register online at https://quicktax.kcmo.org. Registration will require basic information, such as the taxpayer’s federal identification or social security number, mailing address and three forms of identification for verification purposes. Once registered, taxpayers can log in to their secure personal account to view information about previous filings and payments (from rollout forward), refund statuses, bills and filing requirements.

The new Quick Tax portal will also help streamline processes for City staff. Currently, many taxes are manually entered. The new system, combined with an enhanced lockbox process, will improve automation, thereby eliminating many time-consuming processes.
