Looking for a way to celebrate the Chinese New Year and welcome the year of the snake?
The Nelson-Atkins Museum has a whole schedule of events tomorrow evening, and they’re free.
A new exhibition, Journey Through Mountains and Rivers: Chinese Landscapes Ancient and Modern, also opens tomorrow. The exhibition fills four galleries at the museum and celebrates six landscapes that were recently shown at the Shanghai Museum. According to the Nelson-Atkins, “This is a unique opportunity to view these masterworks which, because of their fragility, are rarely displayed.” The exhibition displays thousand-year-old Chinese landscape paintings with landscapes of the living Chinese artist Xu Longsen.

Friday evening events:
- 5:30 & 7:30 p.m. Performance by Kansas City’s own Lily Taylor. Originally from Beijing, Taylor has won the National First Prize of Performance and was a member of the Chinese Dancers Association and the lead female dancer for the largest troupe in China. Taylor is a master instructor who has taught traditional dance both in China and in the US.
- 5 p.m. Tai Chi Demonstration
- 6 & 7:30 p.m. Lion Dance performed by Shaolin Lohan Pai Dance Troupe
- 8 p.m. Jasmine Chinese Dance Group
- Ongoing activities: Zodiac Animal Hunt, Chinese Scroll art activity, artist demonstrations of painting and calligraphy, Chinese Yo-Yo, traditional games and music
