The Midtown/Plaza Area Plan, a city planning document to guide future development and redevelopment, is back in front of city bodies this week.
After more than two years of public meetings, the City Plan Commission gave its approval to the new area plan in September.
At the September meeting, both Country Club Plaza owner Highwoods Properties and Valentine property owner Kansas City Life Insurance opposed parts of the plan. Highwoods has since announced the Plaza is for sale.
Meanwhile, city staff has “engaged in discussions with Highwoods to implement zoning and height recommendations of the plan for their properties in the Country Club Plaza,” according to an email from city planner Kellie Johnson Dorsey.
She said the city and Highwoods have reached consensus on these issues.
This week, the city plan commission will consider the plan on Tuesday, Dec.15 on its 10:30 a.m. docket. The Planning, Zoning and Economic Development Committee has the plan on its agenda on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 1:30 p.m.
The plan will also need approval of the full council before it is implemented.
