Mayor appoints education advisor to build community partnerships

Mayor James.

For the first time, the mayor’s office has an education advisor, charged with developing community partnerships to support student achievement.

Mayor Sly James today appointed Julie Holland to the new position. She begins her job on Dec. 1.

“I want our community to focus on education, specifically the academic achievement of our students, like it never has before,” Mayor James said in a press release. “That begins with my office. Julie will be singularly focused on issues related to education because there is no neighborhood, business, or community goal that isn’t touched in some way by the educational achievement of our students.”

Holland, who lives in Waldo, previous managed an education program at the Kauffman Foundation.

Holland will answer directly to the mayor. The funding for the position is a partnership between the mayor’s office and the Kauffman Foundation.
