The effort to plant 150 native trees and shrubs at Roanoke Park continues this weekend (pending problems with the weather).
Last week, the Roanoke Park volunteers planted 38 of the trees recently donated by the Missouri Department of Conservation. But there are 112 left to plant.
If you can help, show up at the Westport-Roanoke Community Center Saturday, May 4 at 9 a.m. ready to plant. (UPDATE: MOVED TO SUNDAY AT 1:00 p.m., MAY 5 DUE TO WEATHER)
Here’s the call to action from the Roanoke Park Conservancy:
“These are very small bare root seedlings that do not require a large hole. These seeding and planting efforts are desperately needed to restore the damage done to the park’s forests by invasive shrub honeysuckle. The honeysuckle has been preventing the next generation of trees and shrubs from getting started. Our seeding and planting will bring back the beautifully diverse native forest that Roanoke Park deserves.”
