Man charged related to Plaza area murder case pleads guilty

A sixth man charged in relation to the murder of Kansas City businessman Michael Tutera has pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary, Jackson County prosecutors said Tuesday.

Robert Frazier, 25, faces up to 15 years in prison in a plea deal in which he must also give a full statement to police.

Frazier had been charged with murder and armed criminal action for the May 2010 killing in a gated community in the 5300 block of Sunset Place.

But prosecutors said they reduced the charges after Frazier was identified as only being in a vehicle that took others to the Tutera home.

He was the sixth person charged in the crime, prosecutors said. Troy Davis, 24, pleaded guilty to murder in exchange for two consecutive 10-year sentences. Brothers Matthew and Joseph Hendrix pleaded guilty and were sentenced to 25 years, but a judge later reduced Joseph Hendrix’s sentence to 14 years.

Joel Thomas and Michael Dear are awaiting trial.
