The Whole Person honored two Midtown organizations today for supporting independence for people with disabilities.

The Main Street nonprofit assists people with disabilities and advocates for independent living.  The group brought Angela Rockwood, producer and star of the Sundance Channel’s reality series Push Girls, as keynote speaker.

Rockwood told the audience that the work The Whole Person is doing is extremely important because “this could happen to anyone.” Rockwood was a successful model and actress when she was paralyzed in a car crash in 2001.

MainCor Executive Director Diane Burnette accepted the award.

The organization also honored Main Street’s Rehabilitation Institute with its Paul H. Levy Founders Award.
