Main Street Bridge closes Sept. 13 through mid-November

If the Main Street bridge over I 670 is part of your daily route, you’ll need to find a new one next month.

The city says the bridge will close for a brief period beginning Sept. 13 so that improvements can be made. During construction, traffic will be detoured to Oak and Baltimore streets.

Here’s more from the city:

The $2.75 million project will replace the Main Street Bridge with a three-lane concrete bridge that improves vertical clearance and addresses ongoing traffic needs in the area. In addition, crews will widen bridge sidewalks, improve crosswalks and ramps on Truman Road and install updated bridge lighting and decorative fencing.

Accelerated construction is scheduled to minimize closure of the bridge to 50 days. A reopening date is expected in early to mid-November.

Construction also will require single-lane closures of Interstate 670 to allow repairs to the retaining wall and construction of the bridge support columns.
