There’s been a change at the helm of the Economic Development Council.
Mayor Sly James today announced Bob Langenkamp, assistant city manager and Director of City Planning, will take over as interim President and CEO immediately.
He replaces Pete Fullerton who, according to a city press release, is moving on to a different career opportunity in the region. Fullerton had been at the head of the EDC since March of 2012.
“Pete has worked diligently to help mold the EDC into an organization focused on job growth and I am thankful to have worked with such a genuine professional. Pete’s dedicated work ethic and attention to detail will benefit him greatly in the next chapter of his career,” said Mayor James. “Kansas City’s economy has taken off in some truly exciting ways and I can’t wait to see what kind of growth we’ll experience in the years to come.”
According to the city, Langenkamp has worked for the city since 1989 and has been involved in most of the major redevelopment projects undertaken during this period. Langenkamp has served as an assistant city manager since 2009 and was additionally appointed as the Director of City Planning in 2012. Previously, Langenkamp served as the interim President of the Economic Development Corporation. In 2012, he was an ULI Daniel Rose Program Fellow. Langenkamp serves on the Board of the City’s Port Authority (Ex-Officio), the Jazz District Redevelopment Corporation, the Downtown Council, is Chair of the KC CDE, is former Chair of the ULI’s Kansas City District Council, is an alternate member of the Tax Increment Financing Commission, and is a 2000 graduate of the Chamber of Commerce’s Centurions Leadership Program.
The EDC oversees six statutory redevelopment agencies and also serves as the City of Kansas City’s liaison to the business and economic development communities.
