Burglar Roy E. Samuels might as well have left footprints in the snow.
While on parole for burglary and wearing a GPS ankle bracelet, the 64-year-old Kansas City man allegedly committed dozens of burglaries.
Jackson County prosecutors charged him this week with five dozen felony counts related to 34 home burglaries in 2013, including these Midtown blocks:
- 43rd and Genessee
- 53rd and Harrison
- 41st and Bell
- 46th and Mercier
- 40th and McGee
- 50th and Walnut
- 42nd and Oak
- 45th and Washington
According to court records:
His daughter told police in April of last year that he was committing burglaries after police contacted her about a stolen Kindle that he gave her.
His son-in-law also separately told police that Samuels was committing burglaries aimed at “rich white people” while driving a forest green Ford Explorer with Missouri license plates.
Another witness who used checks stolen in burglaries connected to Sanders said she knew him as Black and he did many burglaries a week in a green Explorer.
She called him with police present and got a voice message from a man named Roy at a phone number connected to the suspect.
GPS that pinged his data every minute showed him at the scene of the burglaries.
When confronted in November of last year, Samuels told police he was innocent but could lead them to where the stolen property was fenced.
Police said they already knew that, thanks to his GPS data.
