JJ’s block party Sunday will thank community for support

JJ’s is gone and it is still unsure if it will return, but a block party celebrating it will go on Sunday.

Jimmy Frantze, an owner and operator, invites people on its website to celebrate its 28 ½ anniversary block party.

It will be on 48th Street in front of the former JJ’s, starting at noon and feature live music and street food, he said.

Since the gas explosion destroyed the popular restaurant and killed one of its employees, “the outpouring of financial and emotional support has been tremendous,” Frantze said. “I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to entire Kansas City community who has shown how to come together in time of need. I can say that I am proud to call Kansas City my home and have appreciated all the caring thoughts and gestures following this tragedy.”
