How to park for coming storm

As almost everyone knows by now, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the metro area beginning from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow night. Up to 10 inches of snow are expected to fall in Kansas City.

The city is asking residents to park off of the street of possible. If you must park on the street, you’re asked to park on the west side of the street on north/south roads and on the north side on east/west streets. The city says that makes it easier for snow plows to get down the street.

Crews began applying salt brine on the city’s primary and arterial roads yesterday evening. Crews are currently working nonstop to treat the roads and will switch from road treatment to plow operations as snow begins to accumulate overnight.

While this is voluntary, the city also says if snow requires it to issue a state of emergency,  cars parked on streets that do not comply with this configuration will be subject to ticketing and towing.

Residential snow operations will begin at 6 a.m. on Thursday. Once again, the city will prioritize plowing with primary/arterial routes addressed first, followed by residential streets.

  • To report slick spots or missed streets, call the City’s 311 Call Center (Be advised that while crews are running assigned snow routes, it is assumed that all streets are slick. Only after snow has stopped falling and all snow routes have been run does the City’s 311 Call Center accept requests for slick spots and missed streets.)
