Health department offering flu shots

injection-519388_640The city health director says getting a flu shot is the best way to prevent the flu or decrease its severity, so his department is offering flu vaccinations for adults and children.

“Those who are vaccinated against the flu are far less likely to spread the flu to their family or friends,” said Director Rex Archer.

Details

  • Flu shots are offered at the Health Department, located at 2400 Troost Ave. Flu shots are available during regular clinic hours from 8 – 11:30 a.m. and 1 – 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursdays.
  • The Health Department will bill Medicare Part B or Medicaid on behalf of those who provide proof of coverage. Children that qualify under the Federal Vaccine for Children (VFC) program will receive vaccine provided through that program.
  • All others will be charged $25 per shot or $40 for the high-dose formulation (available to seniors 65 years and older). Cash and credit cards only will be accepted for payment. Those with other insurance providers that cover flu vaccination will need to go to their primary care physician or their regular clinic to receive vaccine.
  • More information on flu shot clinics may be found at the Health Department web page.
