Happy (belated) bus driver appreciation day

Our apologies to bus drivers across Midtown, because we forgot to mention that yesterday was bus driver appreciation day. That doesn’t mean we don’t, or that you shouldn’t, appreciate bus drivers. And we’re sure your driver would appreciate a belated “thank you” even if it’s a day late.

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority encourages us to celebrate bus driver appreciation day because, at they say, “driving a Metro bus isn’t an easy job, but the best drivers make it look that way.”  And Metro bus drivers provided more than 16 million trips last year, getting people to work, school, shopping and medical appointments.

You can print thank you cards at the Bus Driver Appreciation Day website. http://www.busdriverday.org/

International Bus Driver Appreciation Day was started by transit riders in Seattle in 2009. Hans Gerwitz and Shannon Thomas wrote a blog post that inspired the International Bus Driver Appreciation Day movement. They chose March 18 because it was on that day in 1662, bus service began in Paris.

Do you have a favorite Midtown bus driver? Tell us here and we’ll make sure they get the compliment.
