Guitarist kicks off Westport Center for the Arts’ series

John FrancisGuitarist John Francis kicks off the 2015-16 season of Westport Center for the Arts’ Brown Bag Concert series with a performance at 12:10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 Westport Road.

Francis will be performing an eclectic mix of original compositions and covers that draw from the folk, classical, jazz and pop music traditions.

Francis is a composer, arranger and performer who has focused on the guitar and related string instruments for more than 40 years. He performs regularly for public and private audiences. Francis also teaches, performs with and directs the Wichita Guitar Society.

Westport Center for the Arts was founded in 2006 to support community artists and the arts. In addition to the monthly Brown Bag Concerts, WCA presents Readers’ Theater, Kids Team Up for Art and other special programs. Financial assistance for this project has been provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency, and the ArtsKC-Regional Arts Council.

12:10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 Westport Road. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. A complimentary reception will be held immediately after the concert.
