Forum for school board candidates scheduled

apply-nowThe April 5 election race for new school board members got off to a slow start, but several write-in candidates who have entered the race will appear at a forum on March 15.

Before the filing deadline, only one candidate met the deadline and requirements to be on the ballot for the April 5 election. Since then, several write-in candidates have entered the race.

Seven of those candidates who declared before March 15 have been invited to a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters and the Kansas City Public Schools District Advisory Committee (DAC).

A league member will moderate the forum and candidates will have an opportunity to respond to written questions from the audience.

On April 5, voters will choose the board members to represent the following areas:

  • Sub-District 1 (currently held by Board Chair Jon Hile)
  • Sub-District 3 (currently held by Marisol Montero)
  • Sub-District 5 (currently held by Board Vice Chair Curtis L. Rogers)

DAC Chair Jennifer Wolfsie will fill one school board at large position, since she was the only certified candidate and was automatically declared the winner.
