A former business manager whose embezzlement prosecutors say drove a Brookside doctor into bankruptcy was sentenced to two years in prison yesterday.
A federal judge in Kansas City also ordered Eileen Kisner, 57, also known as “Anne,” to pay $170,232 in restitution.
Prosecutors say the former manager of Brookside Family Medicine stole from the business from 2002 to 2010.
The Kansas City woman pleaded guilty previously to a mail fraud count that charged she mailed a $224 company check to pay for her car insurance.
But the thefts went far beyond that, according to court records and a press release from federal prosecutors:
She charged company credit cards for a wide range of personal items and altered the books to cover it.
Among items charged were airline tickets and things from places like Halls, Nordstroms, Ann Taylor, Price Chopper, TJ Maxx, Polo/Ralph Lauren.
She also bled the company to pay her home gas bills, car payments and car insurance.
As a result of the stealing, Dr. Darren Killen went bankrupt and had to sell his business.
After he fired her, she went to Europe for almost three years and worked at jobs in the Netherlands that included being a nanny.
On Feb. 15, 2013, she was arrested in Philadelphia when she got off a plane. Authorities had detected her by doing a records check while her plane was in flight.
